April 24, 2008 As Chairman of the City of Manassas Republican Committee and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Anthony Kostelecky,
do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at Manassas City Hall, Manassas, Virginia 20110, on April 24, 2008, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The purposes of the Party Canvass shall be: 1. To elect up to 220 delegates and 220 alternates (44 delegates x 5) to the Tenth Congressional District Republican Convention. The Tenth District Convention will be held on May 17, 2008, at 10:00
a.m. at Langley High School, 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Virginia. The purpose of the Tenth District Convention shall be to (a) elect a District Chairman, (b) elect three delegates and three alternates to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, beginning on September 1, 2008, (c) to nominate one Elector to be voted for in the Presidential Election of November 4, 2008, and (d) to elect three members to the State Central Committee.

To elect up to 215 delegates and 215 alternates (43 delegates x 5) to the Virginia Republican State Convention, which will be held on May 30-31 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, Richmond, Virginia. The purpose of the State Convention shall be to (a) nominate a candidate for the United States Senate, (b) nominate 2 Electors at Large to be voted for in the Presidential Election of November 4, 2008, (c) to elect a State Chairman, and (d) to nominate a National Committeeman and National Committeewoman.
3. To conduct such other business as may properly come before the Party Canvass. Qualifications for Participation All legal and qualified voters of the City of Manassas under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, age, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, and who, if requested,
express in open meeting orally or in writing, as may be required, their intent to support all of the Republican nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts. All participants must show a valid government-issued ID. No proxy or absentee ballots will be allowed. Delegate Filing Requirements Each person seeking to be a delegate to the Tenth District Convention or the State Convention is required to file a pre-application form by 5:00 p.m. on April 18, 2008, at 9300 Grant Avenue, Suite 200, Manassas, Virginia, 20110. For the purpose of defraying costs, delegates are requested to enclose voluntary fees of $15.00 for the Tenth District Convention and $35 for the State Convention. To be a delegate to either convention, applicants must be registered to vote in the City of Manassas as of the filing deadline, April 18, 2008. If the number of pre-filings for Delegate to the Tenth District
and State Conventions does not exceed the number of delegates allowed in each respective precinct, then all pre-filed persons shall be deemed elected, and the Canvass will be cancelled. Any cancellation announcement will be posted on the internet at www.manassasgop.com. | |
